JAKARTA - The Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities has asked tanker owners carrying oil and gas to be careful with the extreme weather conditions currently occurring in Indonesia.

"Lifting is very important, we hope that by the end of the year. So, of course, BMKG and BRIN analysis will be a awareness for all colleagues who manage ships to be careful with the existing situation," said Head of SKK Migas Dwi Soetjipto as quoted by Antara, Thursday, December 29.

So far, he said, SKK Migas uses the Integrated Operation Center (IOC) as a means of monitoring and coordinating operations for upstream oil and gas activities.

The IOC is a digital system that can monitor operations every day in real time and in time, making it easier for SKK Migas to get access to data on cooperation contract contractors (KKKS) and implementation of activity management in the KKKS operating area.

Through the IOC system, SKK Migas can monitor the movement of tankers carrying KKKS oil and gas products in Indonesian waters.

In the future, SKK Migas will enter BMKG weather data into the IOC system.

SKK Migas has prepared an option to mitigate operating support from the nearest KKKS if there is a tanker ship problem that requires a quick response.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has released the potential for extreme weather in parts of Indonesia from 28 to 30 December 2022.

The extreme weather has the opportunity to cause strong winds and high waves in the sea that can disrupt the distribution of oil and gas through the transport of tankers.

Based on Impact-Based Forecast (IBF) impact-based forecasts, the designated areas have ALERT status during that date period, namely parts of Banten, West Java, DKI Jakarta, Central Java, East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara.

The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) said that Indonesia as a maritime country is the center of convection in cloud growth and producing rain so that there is the potential for extreme weather.
