JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) and the Medan City Government have inaugurated a waste management factory into the Fuel Jumputan Intensive Plan (BBJP) at the Falls Final Disposal Site (TPA), Medan.
General Manager of PLN North Sumatra Generation Main Unit (UIKSBU) Purnomo said the presence of BBJP Plant is expected to be an alternative solution to the waste problem in Medan city, as well as encourage the acceleration of net zero emissions by processing waste into coal replacement fuel (co-firing) for PLTU.
"This BBJP plant will absorb 5 tons of fresh waste from TPA Falls every day to be processed into coal replacement fuel at steam power plants (PLTU)," he said in an official statement, Thursday, December 29.
He added that the waste that can be processed to become BBJP is waste originating from plants, organic kitchen waste and plastic waste.
"BBJP Plant at TPA Falls is a form of PLN's concern in overcoming the waste problem, PLN's Social and Environmental Responsibility Program (TJSL)," said Purnomo.
The construction of BBJP is also to encourage the use of new and renewable energy (EBT) which is a government program of President Joko Widodo.
"So PLN initiated and entered into a cooperation agreement with the Medan City Government in utilizing urban waste into solidized Jumputan Fuel (BBJP) for PLN plants, especially PLTU Pangkalan Susu, North Sumatra," he continued.
Purnomo hopes that the BBJP Plant at TPA Falls will continue to develop with the addition of machinery and expansion of the area. Because, after the completion of the PLN pilot project, the management of the BBJP Plant TPA Falls will be submitted to the Medan City Government so that it can be commercialized and increase regional budget revenue.
In addition, the BBJP Plant initiative is able to mobilize community involvement which directly also drives the economy by creating value from waste as waste into biomass pellet products that have added value for the community.
Head of the Medan City Government Sanitation and Park Service Syarifuddin Irsan Dondoran representing the Mayor of Medan hopes that the collaboration between the Medan City Government and PLN can be one solution to the waste problem in Medan City.
"We hope that the BBJP Plant will be able to become a solution for waste into material that is beneficial for nature and the environment. This BBJP is recycled waste into fuel to replace fossil fuels, so the hope is increasingly open to saving the earth from using fossil fuels," said Syarifuddin.
