Best Generation Operation Day In History, PLN Ensures Electricity Ahead Of The New Year Is Safe

JAKARTA After securing electricity supply for the 2022 Christmas celebration, PLN ensures that electricity supply ahead of the 2023 New Year is safe.

This is supported by the fulfillment of a very sufficient primary energy supply to maintain the operational day of the generator (HOP) in all power plants in Indonesia.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said this achievement could not be separated from the transformation carried out by PLN in managing the primary energy supply chain, which is also supported by the Government and stakeholders in the domestic coal industry.

"Last year's Christmas and New Year's condition in coal supply was a bit critical. Thank God, this year is very sufficient, even being the best HOP in history," Darmawan explained when checking the readiness of the Tambak Lorok gas and steam (PLTGU) power plant through a press statement received by VOI, Monday, December 26.

Since the beginning of 2022, PLN has made changes to the paradigm in monitoring and controlling coal supply. The original supervision focused on the unloading point of the Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) to focus on loading or loading points.

"We built an early warning system mechanism, so the risk of delays in coal supply delivery can be minimized. With a system like this, if there is a potential for supply failure due to coal availability and its transport fleet, it will be detectable early," said Darmawan.

PLN has built an integrated coal management digital system, so coal is now monitored in real time. Supervision steps are carried out not only through the physical field but also by integrating digital monitoring systems.

"We integrate the PLN digital system with the digital system of the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal, so that actions can be corrected quickly, precisely, and measurably," added Darmawan.

Darmawan also said that his party had and continued to monitor the availability of primary energy supplies in all power plants.

"We have checked the supply of primary energy throughout Indonesia, all in sufficient condition. In the west, we checked the Nagan Raya PLTU, the availability of coal is sufficient for 21 HOPs. In the middle, on the island of Kalimantan, the Ketapang PLTU for coal is sufficient for 21 HOPs. In the east, in NTT there is a Ropa PLTU, coal is sufficient for 26 HOPs. In Papua there is a Holtekamp PLTU, the coal is even enough for 98 HOPs," said Darmawan

In particular, Darmawan also ensured that the availability of primary energy for generators on the island of Java was in sufficient condition.

For the island of Java, in the western part, yesterday we checked the Suralaya PLTU, the availability of coal is sufficient, the HOP is more than 28 days. In the east, we also checked the Paiton PLTU, the availability of coal is also sufficient, the HOP is more than 25 days. Today we checked the Tambak Lorok PLTGU, the availability of gas is also safe. Likewise at the Tanjung Jati B PLTU, the HOP is more than 20 days," added Darmawan.

Not only coal, gas and fuel supply as a second line and third line of defense, which previously experienced limitations, the supply is now in a safe condition.

The total power capable of supply nationally during the Christmas and New Year periods is 44.4 Gigawatts (GW) with a projected peak load on New Year's Eve of 34.6 GW.

This means that in terms of electricity supply, PLN is very sufficient to cover all community activities with operational reserves of 9.8 GW.

"With the best availability of primary energy supply in history, we are optimistic that PLN is ready to maintain the light of electricity so that the 2023 New Year celebrations can take place with joy," concluded Darmawan.
