JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) noted that people who travel by public transportation during the seven-day monitoring period, starting from Monday 19 December (H-6) to Saturday 24 December 2022 (D-1), cumulatively reaching 3,945,489 passengers.

"This number increased by 32.98 percent when compared to Christmas and New Year's transportation in 2021 in the same period as many as 2,644,196 passengers," said Ministry of Transportation Spokesperson Adita Irawati as quoted by Antara, Sunday, December 25.

Adita conveyed, based on temporary data on the movement of public transport passengers compiled from the Christmas and New Year's Transportation Posts.

In detail, the highest cumulative number of passengers from D-6 to D-1, namely in air transportation modes as many as 1,178,678 passengers.

This number increased 19.98 percent compared to the same period last year, which was 943,095 passengers.

Then, another highest number is road transportation as many as 820,533 passengers, or an increase of 40.01 percent compared to last year's 492,208 passengers.

Furthermore, rail transportation was 749,965 passengers, an increase of 57.28 percent compared to last year's 320,312 passengers.

In addition, passenger crossing 840,423 passengers increased 25.7 percent compared to last year's 624,355 passengers. Meanwhile, sea transportation was 355,890 passengers, an increase of 25.75 percent compared to last year's 264,226 passengers.

Meanwhile, based on temporary data, the peak movement of public transport passengers per day occurred on December 23, 2022 (D-2).

On D-2, namely road transportation there are 142,682 passengers, crossing transportation 159,017 passengers, air transportation 244,717 passengers, rail transportation 156,990 passengers, and sea transportation as many as 57,123 passengers.

"According to our predictions, D-2 and D-1 will be the highest peak of people's movement during the Christmas holiday homecoming flow. However, the surge in passenger movement is still under control," he said.

The number of vehicle movements monitored by PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk, cumulatively from D-7 to D-1, was recorded at 1,077,956 vehicles leaving the Jabotabek area.

This number increased by 0.77 percent compared to last year's total of 1,069,738 vehicles, and increased by 30.12 percent compared to normal traffic for the June 2022 period with a total of 828,432 vehicles.

The Ministry of Transportation predicts that the peak of the 2022 Christmas homecoming will occur on 23-24 December 2022 (D-2 and D-1).

This year, monitoring the movement of passengers and vehicles is carried out at 111 terminals, 22 ferry ports, 51 airports, 110 seaports, 13 daop/divre, and 4 toll gates.
