Support Pertamina's Energy Transition Program, PGN Optimizes Earth Gas For Land Transportation And Traditional Fishermen's Ships

JAKARTA - Natural gas as transitional energy and Indonesia still has sufficient natural gas potential as a more efficient and environmentally friendly energy source. This momentum is used by PT PGN Tbk as Pertamina Gas Subholding to make natural gas an alternative energy, for motorcycle fuel, traditional fishing boats, and four-wheeled vehicles in the next five years.

The natural gas program for land transportation and traditional fishing boats will use CNG. We project that this program will optimize the use of Pertamina's SPBG which was built using independent funds and APBN. There are 35 SPBGs to be reactivated gradually. Currently, 3 units in Semarang have been revitalized," explained PGN President Director M. Haryo Yunianto in his presentation at the Energy Sovereignty Webinar at UII Yogyakarta, quoted Wednesday, December 13.

Haryo explained that the conversion target for motorcycles is 100 thousand units. The size of the CNG tube is 14 x 53 cm, this size is quite compact, allowing safe placement on the left and right of the steering column without reducing driving comfort.

A steel and high safety standard tube with a capacity of 2.5 liters equivalent to premium (lsp) can support a cruising range of up to 100 km in one full charge.

"The main composition of CNG for motorcycles is that clean and high-octane methane is able to provide good engine performance benefits and environmentally friendly exhaust gases," said Haryo.

Haryo continued, the use of fuel conversion to BBG on motorcycles can improve welfare for potential fuel price savings of up to 55 percent equivalent to Rp. 6.9 million per year (consumption of 4 liters of pertalite / day fuel). The burden of fuel subsidies and dependence on fuel imports that can be reduced is equivalent to 125 thousand kilo liters per year.

While the addition of conversions to four-wheeled vehicles, PGN projects as many as 1000 trucks / buses and 18,000 small vehicles. This is reliable in a tangible form where BBG has been used by vehicles such as taxis, bajaj, and Trans Semarang buses.

Then for fishing boats, the target for quick win conversion is 6.71 BBTUD for 30,000 fishing boats. This program is for creative fishermen using Gaslink Cylinder with a capacity of 4.2 media. With high safety standards, it supports a cruising range of up to 50 Km on the 50 percent Diesel Fuel (DDF) operating mode for 1 day of sailing.

Similar to CNG for motorcycles, CNG for fishing boats with high-octane methane compositions provides good and environmentally friendly engine performance benefits. In addition, giving fuel savings potential of up to 30 percent is equivalent to IDR 7.2 million per year (consumption of 10 liters of diesel fuel per day)

"The need for gas supply for transportation BBG is approximately 40 BBTUD in 2027. Meanwhile, its use is estimated to increase to 410 million LSP. The continued impact will save the state budget to reduce subsidized fuel to Rp1.25 trillion per year assuming a fuel subsidy of 3000 rupiah per liter," said Haryo.

According to Haryo, the increase in world oil prices and domestic fuel is the right momentum for optimizing natural gas. In addition to improving the performance of the SPBG business, the acceleration of natural gas as BBG by PGN will have a savings impact on the community, energy subsidies and state foreign exchange.
