JAKARTA - The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) is optimistic that tourist destinations in Indonesia will continue to grow amid the global recession that is predicted to occur in 2023.

Moreover, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy will focus on visiting domestic tourists.

"Indeed, next year, with a global recession, it will certainly have an impact on foreign tourists, but once again what I can say is that we are actually more focused on domestic tourists who may provide considerable potential for tourism development in Indonesia," said Head of the Data and Information System Center (Pusdatin) of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Norman Sasono, Tuesday, December 13.

Not only focusing on domestic tourists, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy plans to develop a number of events to attract tourists.

"Of course, with the various programs and strategies that we have developed, both through events that will certainly increase tourism contribution next year," said Norman.

Nevertheless, Norman said that his party was still targeting tourism growth from abroad in 2023.

"We are still targeting around 3.5 to 7.4 million foreign tourists (tourists). We hope that this foreign tourist visit can continue to increase," he said.

Furthermore, Norman said, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is targeting the number of foreign tourist visits from border areas to continue to increase. This is because, according to data from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, the area is the largest contributor to tourists entering Indonesia. "We hope that visits from foreign tourists will continue to increase, especially from the border, which has contributed to large foreign tourists visiting," he said.
