PT PLN (Persero) claims to have recovered 116 of the total 121 electricity substations affected by the eruption of Mount Semeru in Lumajang Regency, East Java.

President Director of PT PLN (Persero) Darmawan Prasodjo said, as many as 116 substations affected by the eruption resulted in 29,947 customers in Pronojiwo, Rowokangkung, Candipuro and Pasirian sub-districts experiencing blackouts.

"Until last night, we have succeeded in maneuvering the Pronojiwo Auction network so that electricity supply can be distributed to areas that allow and have been declared safe," Darmawan said in an official statement, Monday, December 5.

For the other five substations, he continued, the latest condition was still extinguished for safety reasons because the area was severely affected so that it was still waiting for a more conducive situation and condition.

"There have been 116 substations that have been successfully normalized, as many as 5 substations are still extinguished because they are in areas that are severely affected. However, the people at that location are already in refugee camps and receive PLN electricity services," he said.

However, he ensured, several refugee areas scattered in Candipuro and Pronojiwo, their electricity networks were in safe condition and could be used to serve people affected by the eruption.

In addition to handling technical electricity recovery, PLN has also mobilized volunteers to support residents at evacuation posts prepared by the Lumajang Regency Government through the PLN Cares Together with the Baitul Maal Foundation (YBM) PLN.

PLN volunteers deployed an ambulance and managed to distribute various aids in the form of masks, ready-to-eat food packages, rice and hundreds of other aids.

PLN also mobilized three mobile generator units to support the needs of the community at the post.
