JAKARTA - More than three thousand households in Central Kalimantan are targeted to receive free electricity connection assistance through the Electricity New Installation Assistance (BPBL) program launched by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
Expert Staff to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources for Obvitnas Supervision, Yurod Saleh said, until the end of this year there will be 3,281 households in Central Kalimantan, with West Kotawaringin Regency getting 339 household connections spread across 6 sub-districts.
Furthermore, Yurod explained, with the BPBL program, it is hoped that the community can be independent with access to electricity owned by themselves.
"In addition to increasing the electrification ratio, the BPBL program is also expected to improve people's standard of living and independence. By having access to electricity itself, BPBL beneficiary communities are expected to no longer depend on the provision of electricity from neighbors," Yurod explained to the media, Thursday, November 24.
Meanwhile, Senior Specialist of Commerce Management at the Directorate of Retail and Commerce at PT PLN (Persero) Ismail Deu said that the BPBL program was a milestone in the history of electricity assistance in Central Kalimantan, especially in West Kotawaringin Regency.
"PLN continues to support the government and the DPR in carrying out Indonesia's electrified duties," he continued.
One of the beneficiaries, Eka Haryadi admitted that he had been getting electricity from his neighbors. He also has to pay a fee of around Rp. 100,000 to Rp. 200,000 every month.
He stated that beneficiaries can take care of their own electricity needs in their homes, which consists of three people, especially for water pumps and for lighting.
"I would like to thank the government for the BPBL given, now I am satisfied that I already have my own electricity," said Eka Haryadi.
