JAKARTA - PT Kustodian Sentral Efek Indonesia (KSEI) noted that the number of mutual fund investors was almost 10 million, or to be precise, it reached 9,090,977 as of September 2022.

This number increased by 32.9 percent in 2022 compared to the end of 2021 which was only 6,840,234.

KSEI President Director Uriep Budhi Prasetyo said that along with the increasing number of Indonesian capital market investors, the number of investment instruments also increased and became more diverse.

In addition to stocks, mutual funds are one of the investment instruments in the capital market that investors are eyeing.

KSEI noted that the number of mutual fund investors has been consistently increasing since the last 5 years.

Of this total, 78.02 percent of investors have accounts with financial technology mutual fund selling agents (fintech selling agents).

"The good increase in the number of mutual fund investors proves that more and more people are interested in capital market products. Mutual funds can be used as an alternative initial investment for people who have money and want to invest in the capital market," said KSEI President Director Uriep Budhi Prasetyo at Jakarta, Tuesday, October 25.

Budhi said the growth in Asset Under Management (AUM) of fintech selling agent mutual funds has continued to grow since 2018 until now.

Over the past year, the AUM of fintech selling agent mutual funds has increased 58 percent to Rp. 24,767.61 billion.

"The enthusiasm of the Indonesian people in investing in mutual funds is reflected in the number of mutual fund ownership by local investors who control 97.36 percent of the total assets of mutual funds," he said.

Based on data on ownership of the types of mutual fund products in September 2022, there are three types of mutual funds with the highest number of investors.

Money market mutual funds are a type of mutual fund product with the largest number of investors, which is 2,448,265, an increase of 28.8 percent from 2021.

Followed by fixed income mutual funds or fixed income funds with 938,039 investors, an increase of 13.6 percent from 2021.

Furthermore, there are equity funds with 788,282 investors, an increase of 23.5 percent from 2021.

In terms of Assets Under Management, fixed income mutual funds had the highest value of Rp. 148.71 trillion in September 2022.

Meanwhile, the Head of KSEI's Transaction Settlement and Service Administration Division, Dharma Setyadi, said that based on data from the end of 2018 to September 2022, the average mutual fund subscription always increases, which is 93 percent every year.

"This shows that Indonesians are increasingly interested in investing in mutual fund products, seen from the data on the frequency of mutual fund transactions over the last 5 years," said Dharma.

Since 2016, Dharma continued, KSEI as one of the Self-Regulatory Organizations (SRO) has been given a mandate related to the administration of mutual fund investor data.

KSEI has implemented an Integrated Investment Management System (S-INVEST) which is in line with capital market development.

The system helps capital market regulators to monitor and manage investments more efficiently and effectively.

With S-INVEST, capital market investor data can be consolidated in KSEI because mutual fund investors are also given an SID number and can monitor their mutual fund products through the Securities Ownership Reference (AKSES) facility provided by KSEI.
