JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Transportation has decided to use environmentally friendly transportation facilities at the G20 Summit peak event (KTT) in November.

One of them is a free electric motorcycle taxi service as a feeder (shuttle) in smoothing the mobility of delegates, committees, and participants present in Nusa Dua, Bali.

Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi said this initiative is clear evidence of government support to expand the use of electric vehicles in Indonesia.

"We show this commitment during the Indonesian Presidency at the G20 and hopefully it can be utilized optimally," he said in a written statement on Wednesday, October 19.

According to the Minister of Transportation, electric vehicles are a necessity and become a vehicle for the future. He said public transportation is the starting point and an example that must be massively carried out in socializing the use of electric vehicles.

"Furthermore, this will be followed by the widespread use of electric vehicles for the general public," he said.

The Minister of Transportation added that the government specifically asked business actors to participate in creating an electric vehicle ecosystem by providing facilities, such as charging places at many points.

"On the one hand, the government is trying to provide subsidies so that people are more interested in using electric vehicles," he said.

For information, this free electric motorcycle service was held thanks to collaboration with Electrum, a joint company founded by Gojek (part of the GoTo Group) and TBS Energi Utama.

It is stated that electric motorcycle shuttles are available at shuttle stops at five strategic points, and six intermediate points are integrated with electric bus services from the Ministry of Transportation. The electric motorcycle motorcycle driver partners on duty have been provided with special training on service excellence, introduction of electric vehicles, and basic English.
