JAKARTA - PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BRI) has begun to implement the use of electric vehicles (EV), green building, and New and Renewable Energy (EBT) to support the government's target of achieving Net Zero Emission (NZE) by 2060.

BRI Director of Networks and Services Andrijanto said that his party had used 30 Hyundai Ioniq electric cars as operational vehicles in regional offices spread throughout Indonesia and 50 GESITS electric motorcycles used by marketers.

"BRI certainly realizes that steps to preserve the earth need to be carried out as early as possible. We see that the use of environmentally friendly energy can have a positive impact on the environment, social, and economy," Andrijanto said in a statement received in Jakarta, Wednesday.

According to calculations, he continued, the use of electric cars will be more economical than conventional vehicles.

Andrijanto revealed that a number of uses of environmentally friendly resources at BRI include the implementation of green buildings, Solar Power Plants (PLTS) or solar panels, to electric vehicles.

Most recently, BRI has just inaugurated the BRILian Tower on August 17, 2022, where the building has received green building certification from the Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI) Gold category.

Thus, the BRILian Tower in its life cycle, starting from the planning, construction, operation, maintenance, and renovation stages is able to create a positive impact on the climate and environment.

This is supported by resource efficiency with renewable technology, the application of the zero run-off concept in the aspect of rainwater conservation and management, reuse & cycle materials that can save 19.29 percent of electrical energy consumption from conventional designs, as well as superior building environment management.

The green building concept is also planned to be applied again to the construction of a branch office in the S. Parman area, DKI Jakarta.

In addition, BRI will also use environmentally friendly energy as a resource through PLTS in 8 work units spread across several areas, namely Bandung, Denpasar, Jakarta, Malang, and Yogyakarta.

According to BRI calculations, the use of PLTS or solar panels can save energy by up to 5 percent at the branch office.

Meanwhile, in other calculations, the use of electric cars is also known to be more economical than conventional vehicles.

"As one of the First Mover on Sustainable Finance, BRI has gradually implemented a sustainability strategy that can accelerate the implementation of Sustainable Finance in Indonesia," he concluded.
