Halim Airport Revitalization Absorbs IDR 600 Billion Budget and Takes 6 Months, Minister of Transportation Budi: Well Implemented

JAKARTA - The President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo accompanied by the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi inaugurated the revitalized Halim Perdanakusuma Airport VVIP terminal. The inauguration was marked by the signing of the inscription as well as a brief overview of the new terminal.

Budi explained that Halim Airport is a vital object that was previously poorly maintained. Because it needs to be revitalized. According to Budi, before the revitalization was carried out, his party had mapped out three problems.

The problem is that the runway has peeled off due to age, poor drainage, and the condition of the VVIP terminal building which is considered unrepresentative to show that the Indonesian nation is great.

At the inauguration, Budi expressed his gratitude to President Jokowi who had provided direction, and to all parties who supported the smooth revitalization of Halim airport. Starting from the TNI Commander, Minister of State Secretary, Minister of Finance, Minister of PUPR, contractors implementing the work, AP II, Airnav Indonesia, and other related elements.

"Although the processing time is short, only about 6 months, thanks to the collaboration of all parties, we can carry out this revitalization well", said the Minister of Transportation, in an official statement, Wednesday, October 5.

Furthermore, Budi said, the design of the new VVIP terminal carries local wisdom with a modern touch. This new VVIP terminal will increase Indonesia's confidence as a host when welcoming important state guests in the Indonesian Presidency at the G-20 Summit.

"This building is not big but still beautiful and comfortable for waiting rooms for important state guests. We were assisted by fellow architects to design with a traditional feel. The rooms inside the terminal are named Yudistira, Bima, Arjuna, Nakula, and Sadewa. This shows that Pandawa Lima is a representation of Indonesian culture", said the Minister of Transportation.

For your information, the revitalization of Halim Airport refers to Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 9 of 2022 concerning the Revitalization of the Indonesian National Army Base Facilities / Halim Perdanakusuma Airport. Several revitalized facilities are the runway, taxiway, apron, drainage, VVIP terminal, and other facilities. The budget allocated for revitalization is IDR600 billion.

Halim Airport resumed operations to serve commercial flights on September 1, 2022, after revitalization has been carried out since March 2022. Before the operation, the Ministry of Transportation through the Directorate General of Air Transportation has carried out a series of coordination with the Indonesian Air Force, AP II, Airnav Indonesia, and other related parties, to ensure aspects of safety, security, service, and compliance with all regulations are met.

Several trials of landing take-off, certification, and calibration, have also been carried out before the runway is operational again. With a runway length of 3,000 meters, all types of aircraft up to Boeing 747 and 777 can land at this airport.
