JAKARTA - The Indonesian government through the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is said to strengthen cooperation in the manufacturing sector with Japan in order to increase capacity and competitiveness according to the principle of sustainability.

Director General of Resilience, Region and International Industrial Access (KPAII) of the Ministry of Industry Eko Cahyanto said his party had collaborated with the Japan External Trade Organization (Jetro) to initiate an Eco-Industrial Park approach in the country.

"This is very important to maintain the continuity of resources, regenerate raw material sources, and explore economic potential that has not been utilized," he said in an official statement quoted on Wednesday, September 28.

According to Eko, Indonesia is preparing itself as a pioneer in green mobility through policies that support the creation of an ecosystem for the development of the electric vehicle industry. He said, this important step has the opportunity to increase resource productivity and improve economic, environmental and socio-business performance.

"The implementation of these programs is also supported by various other policies, such as facilitation and fiscal and non-fiscal incentives, the development of industrial human resources, as well as infrastructure development," he said.

On the same occasion, President Director of Jetro Takahashi Masakazu stated that the issue of climate change is an important issue that cannot be avoided by industry in various countries in the world.

"As an effort to support global decarbonization, the Japanese Government together with Japanese companies in Indonesia will consider implementing several new programs, including efforts to transition to carbon neutrality, circular economy, up-to-up recycling, which exceeds recycling, green transformation," he explained.

Masakazu also revealed that Japan is ready to provide support for the Republic of Indonesia, including preparation of an investment environment for decarbonization, providing incentives for companies that make decarbonization efforts.

"We are also encouraging the preparation of related infrastructure for decarbonization, as well as prioritizing evaluations based on life cycle assessment (LCA) and encouraging reduce, recycle, reuse of waste, and utilizing digital technology," said Masakazu.
