Eric Thohir Pede Energi Primary Indonesia Can Guarantee The Certainty Of Coal Supply

JAKARTA - SOE Minister Erick Thohir is optimistic that the formation of Holding and Subholding PT PLN (Persero) will provide certainty of primary energy procurement for generating operations.

Erick said, after two years ago I asked PLN to carry out the transformation.

According to him, it is important for PLN to develop innovations and carry out efficiency and complex business processes must be reorganized.

First, I ask for primary energy procurement matters that were previously spread and not efficient, so that they are managed centrally so that they are more efficient. One subholding will be formed, namely PLN Energi Primary Indonesia. With this, security of supply can be stronger," he said in a statement to the media, Thursday, September 22.

PLN President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo explained, this primary energy subholding will focus on managing to supply chains from primary energy sources for power plants, namely Coal, Gas and Fuel, and Biomassa.

PLN Energi Primary Indonesia has three subsidiaries, namely the Coal Mining Company, Gas Midstream Company, and Logistics Coal Company.

This subholding will secure primary energy supply to produce electricity of up to 280,000 Gigawatt Hours (GWh) per year.

"This will consolidate the procurement and supply chain of primary energy at only one point below the primary energy subholding," said Darmawan.

Darmawan gave an example, previously the coal supply chain was spread across PLN and each subsidiary of PLN.

"In the past, CHD had its own, Indonesia Power had its own, we had our own, then in each generation there was also. We synergized this, we managed it and we consolidated it into one so that it was more effective and efficient," said Darmawan.

In addition to coal, the procurement of gas and fuel are also consolidated in this primary energy subholding.

"Each of these needs will have its respective directorates who are responsible for ensuring the supply chain," added Darmawan.

In addition to relying on primary energy, PLN currently operates Steam Power Plants (PLTU) where in its operations, PLN implements co-firing technology. This technology requires biomass as a substitution of coal.

So through this subholding, PLN also forms a new entity that specifically takes care of biomass.

"In the future, PLN needs at least 10 million tons of biomass for our co-firing. So we are also forming a new entity specifically to take care of this biomass," said Darmawan.
