JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) together with the North Sumatra Provincial Government today symbolically harvested red chilies in Deli Serdang to emphasize inflation control measures in the regions.

Deputy Governor of BI Juda Agung said that the central bank's move was a manifestation of the agenda of the National Food Inflation Control Movement (GNPIP) in accordance with the direction of the President of the Republic of Indonesia.

"Bank Indonesia and other North Sumatra Regional Inflation Control Teams (TPID) have summoned 43 other Bank Indonesia Domestic Representative Offices (KPw DN) in controlling inflation rates through innovation and digitizing the development of red chili clusters," he said in a written statement on Wednesday, August 31.

According to Juda, GNPIP is expected to optimize real efforts and actions in stabilizing food prices (from the supply side) and encourage production to increase food security, which is more integrated and has a national impact.

"We must take steps to deal with more structural aspects, by encouraging innovation and digitization of agriculture as has been done by the red chili cluster in North Sumatra," he said.

On the same occasion, the Governor of North Sumatra, Edy Rahmayadi stated, collaboration and commitment from all stakeholders are needed to support the implementation of inflation control programs in the regions.

"Strengthening on the production side needs to be encouraged through the opening of new food clusters in the center area, replicating innovations from the integrated farming red chili cluster which was inaugurated today in Deli Serdang," he said.

Edy added, in addition to increasing production on the upstream side for other horticultural commodities, it will continue to be carried out through various trainings and saprodi assistance, including increasing access to digital technology and economy as well as financing for MSMEs.

He also appreciates and will continue to support various inflation control efforts carried out with Bank Indonesia.

The obstacles and challenges can be resolved through the collaboration of all components, prices can be maintained and the welfare of farmers can increase. Bank Indonesia needs to continue to encourage breakthroughs to help implement agricultural digitization," he said.
