JAKARTA - The price of chicken has fallen at Rp. 17,000 per head, the price is even far from the capital price issued by farmers. Because of this, Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan said his office would be invaded by chicken farmers.

"Now there are people shouting, those who will come to the Ministry of Trade are chicken breeders. Chicken in farmers are now IDR 17,000, this is busy coming to my place," he said during a Working Meeting with Commission VI of the DPR RI, at the DPR Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday 30 August.

Zulhas as Zulkifli Hasan is familiarly called, said that the chicken farmers are currently experiencing losses. This is because the selling price of chickens is only Rp. 17,000 per head. In fact, the farmers' capital reaches Rp. 24,700 per head.

"If Rp. 17,000 is a loss, sir, their capital should be at most, the main thing is to fat it, give the feed a capital of Rp. 24,700. So if you buy Rp. 17,000, sorry sir it's their loss," he said.

According to Zulhas, the conditions experienced by this chicken commodity are like those experienced in broiler eggs in 2021. At that time, the price of broiler eggs was priced at Rp. 14,000 per kg. As a result, many breeders finally do an early effect or try to reduce the production of mothers so that they do not lay eggs and become chicken seeds or DOC.

Furthermore, the former chairman of the MPR explained that the decline in the price of chickens was due to the excess import of grand parent stock (GPS).

"It's like an egg that in early 2021 and it seems that the excess used to be GPS imports, the grand parent stock is more. So having a child is a lot, excess. So sometimes babies die because of excess," he said.

On this occasion, Zulhas admitted that he would look for a way out so that the price of chickens would improve again.

"We will find a way so that the price can go up at least Rp. 27,000 for the chicken, approximately Rp. 34,000 is the normal price like that," he said.
