Tourists Spend An Average Of IDR 2 Million When Visiting Yogyakarta

JAKARTA - The Yogyakarta City Tourism Office said that the indicators of tourist visits to the city are getting better this year when viewed from various parameters, including the average spending value of almost Rp. 2 million per tourist.

"There are at least three parameters that are indicators of tourism conditions in an area. Starting from the level of tourist visits, length of stay, and the value of spending by tourists," said Head of the Yogyakarta City Tourism Office Wahyu Hendratmoko in Yogyakarta, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, August 24.

Based on data until the end of July, the number of tourists visiting the city of Yogyakarta was recorded at 3,898,951 people, calculated based on hotel room occupancy in the city.

Meanwhile, the average length of stay of tourists was recorded at 1.8 days and the amount of spending spent by tourists on average reached Rp. 1.9 million.

According to Wahyu, the three parameters show a graph that is starting to increase compared to the previous period as well as marking the rise and recovery of tourism in the city of Yogyakarta after it slumped due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nevertheless, he continued, the start of the recovery of tourism conditions in the city of Yogyakarta is a challenge so that the recovery conditions are maintained and even better from time to time.

"One of the challenges is increasing the length of stay of tourists. Even though the achievement as of July has exceeded the target we set," he said.

Based on the target, the length of stay of tourists in the city of Yogyakarta this year is set at 1.6 days. "This means that the length of stay of tourists is now better. However, we are trying to make the length of stay of tourists more than two days," he said.

Wahyu said the length of stay of tourists will have an impact on increasing the value of spending issued by tourists so that it can increase economic turnover in the city of Yogyakarta to improve people's welfare.

In addition, the Yogyakarta City Tourism Office is also trying to increase foreign tourist visits, which have also begun to show an increasing graph since the beginning of the year.

"Usually, foreign tourist visits reach 10 percent of the total visits, which currently reach around 3.9 million tourists. This means that around 390,000 of them are foreign tourists," he said, referring to the peak of foreign tourist arrivals from July to September.

Wahyu said that although the Yogyakarta City Tourism Office recorded a fairly high number of tourist visits, it was possible that the number was higher because there were tourists who only traveled one day in Yogyakarta without staying overnight.

"We will increase the number of events because it is believed to be able to become a tourist attraction to bring in as many tourists as possible," he said.

In the near future, on Saturday 27 August, the Yogyakarta City Tourism Office will hold the Prawirotaman Festival along Jalan Prawirotaman Yogyakarta, starting at 15.00 WIB by displaying various art attractions, dances, music, cultural carnival, fashion on the street, to an orchestra.
