JAKARTA - Director of PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk Franciscus Welirang stated firmly that the price of instant noodles produced by the company will not increase by three times due to fluctuations in the prices of raw materials for wheat and wheat flour.

"In common sense, with the current price of wheat, it is impossible for the price of instant noodles to triple," he said in response to a VOI question on Thursday, August 11.

According to Franky, Franciscus' nickname, this objection is based on the latest developments in the selling value of raw materials in the global market.

“Wheat prices have only increased by around 85 percent and this has been for 1.5 years since early 2021 until now. Then now the highest trend has stopped," he said.

Another assumption expressed by Franky is that the components of instant noodle production are not dominated by wheat or wheat flour alone. This of course affects the bandrol offered to the public.

“Instant noodles contain a lot of components, not only flour. The role of flour in instant noodles is around 20 to 25 percent," he said.

Therefore, Franky asked the public not to respond to this issue in an over-responsive manner and remain calm because the stock of products in the market is quite well maintained.

"So the three-fold (increase) is very excessive. However, the Minister of Agriculture may want to send a warning message, there is a food threat due to climate change," said Franciscus Welirang who is also the General Chair of the Indonesian Wheat Flour Producers Association (Aptindo).
