JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) recorded as many as 18.7 million merchants or traders and users have been connected to the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) since it was first launched on August 17, 2019 until now.

"Of this total, 90 percent are MSMEs," said BI Governor Perry Warjiyo at the Opening Ceremony of the 2022 Indonesian Digital Economy and Finance Festival (FEKDI), which is also a side activity of the G20 Indonesia in Nusa Dua, Bali, as reported by Antara, Monday, July 11.

Thus, he targets this year's QRIS traders and users to reach 30 million and 65 million in the next three years.

With close synergy and collaboration, Indonesia managed to survive COVID-19 because it was strongly supported by Indonesia's fast-paced digital economy and finance.

BI Governor Perry Warjiyo said this can be seen from the rapid development of e-commerce in the country, which rose 31 percent this year to Rp536 trillion, as well as electronic money, which this year is estimated to reach Rp360 trillion, up 18 percent.

In addition, all digital banking services this year are projected to increase by IDR 51,000 trillion, up 26 percent.

"This progress can strengthen our economy. The electronification of social assistance as well as regional financial transactions and various modes of transportation is digitalization, this is a synergy and collaboration to get things done," said Perry Warjiyo.

On the other hand, he mentioned that the central bank has also launched the Blueprint for Digitizing the Indonesian Payment System in 2019. The digitization of the Indonesian payment system fully supports President Joko Widodo's direction to digitize the economy and finances in the country.

In addition, a toll road for retail transactions, namely BI Fast Payment, was launched last year, which has become a savior during COVID-19. This year BI will also cooperate with ASEAN-5 countries for inter-country QRIS, fast payments, and local currency cooperation.

"This is where BI fully supports the digitization of payments to accelerate the digitization of the Indonesian economy and finances," said Perry Warjiyo.
