JAKARTA - The Provincial Government of West Sulawesi (Sulbar) has prepared a five-hectare land to build a Pertamina fuel depot in the Belangbelang port area of Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi.

Acting Governor of West Sulawesi, Akmal Malik, inspected a five-hectare site for the construction of the Pertamina Fuel Depot at Belangbelang port, Kalukku sub-district, Mamuju district, Friday, July 1.

Akmal Malik said that the location for the construction of the Pertamina Fuel Depot is very strategic because it is about one kilometer from the Trans Sulawesi-Mamuju Axis Road.

"The land has been freed from the community and belongs to the government to be used to build the Pertamina Depot, to support the smooth sea transportation that passes through the waters of West Sulawesi," he said, quoted from Antara, Saturday, July 2.

According to Akmal, the existence of the BBM Depot will make West Sulawesi a resting place for every ship that crosses its waters.

"The waters of West Sulawesi, which are located in the Makassar Strait, are the Indonesian Archipelago Sea Lane (ALKI) II route, which will be crowded with shipping when the state capital (IKN) is built by the government on the island of Kalimantan," he said.

In addition, it will build West Sulawesi's independence in the energy sector because so far West Sulawesi fuel has always been supplied from Palu, Central Sulawesi Province and Pare-Pare Province (South Sulawesi) which of course will require large costs," he said.

He said that in the construction of the BBM depot at the Belangbelang port, the West Sulawesi government would cooperate with PT Pertamina Patra Niaga and PT Egi Innovation Nusantara.

He also said the government would immediately conduct socialization with residents when the construction of the Pertamina Sulbar Depot will be developed in the future.

"The builder of the Pertamina Depot in West Sulawesi empowers local workers, especially those around the construction site, and that is an agreement between the government and the company that built it," he said.

Akmal said that land cultivation and the launching of the first stone for the Pertamina BBM Depo in West Sulawesi are scheduled to start in August, and construction is targeted for completion in September 2022.
