JAKARTA - PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) is accelerating the construction of 10 points in the Nusa Tenggara (Nusra) and Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) clusters, which are currently entering the permitting stage for the Conformity of Marine Space Utilization Activities (KKPRL) of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.

This program is a Power Plant Gasification Project as stipulated in the Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources No. 2 of 2022.

Director of Infrastructure and Technology of PGN Achmad Muchtasyar stated, PGN is committed to undergoing the entire process of the power plant regasification project in accordance with applicable regulations.

The KKPRL approval regarding the Jetty Facility is one of the important stages where the facility will be utilized in the LNG transfer process as a mode of inter-island gas transportation.

The Nusa Tenggara (NTB & NTT) cluster consists of Jeranjang-Lombok NTB at MPP Jeranjang and PLTG/PLTGU Lombok Peaker, Sumbawa NTB at PLTMG Sumbawa, Bima NTB at PLTMG Bima, Rangko-Flores NTT at PLTMG Rangko (Flores), Maumere NTT at PLTMG Maumere, Alor NTT at PLTMG Alor, Waingapu NTT at PLTMG Waingapu, and Kupang NTT at PLTMG Kupang.

Meanwhile, the Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) cluster, namely Konawe-Kendari at the Kendari PLTMG, and Bau-Bau at the Bau-Bau PLTMG.

Natural gas needs for the Nusra and Southeast Sulawesi clusters are planned to be supplied via LNG mode from Bontang, with a total demand for the Nusra cluster of around 28 BBTUD and Southeast Sulawesi around 4 BBTUD.

Achmad said, there are several PLTMG regasification locations that are included in the Marine Conservation Zone, namely Alor PLTMG, Waingapu PLTMG and Kupang PLTMG.

For this reason, infrastructure planning must be mature, so that in accordance with PGN's commitment to the safe and sustainable implementation of natural gas operations, every aspect of the implementation of this project must be considered.

"PGN is very concerned about environmental aspects and the safety of the ecosystem around the project that maintains the continuity of life and marine habitats around it," explained Achmad in a written statement, quoted on Wednesday, June 15.

Achmad added that the environmental conditions for regasification are also challenging, because power plants are generally located on the coast with fairly high wave conditions and rocky soil.

For PGN, the regasification project at power plants is a kind of bridging or entry point for all segments of natural gas users, including industrial, commercial, MSMEs, households and transportation.

Starting from the need for natural gas anchors from several PLN power plant locations that have been determined, PGN as Pertamina's gas subholding will enter the Eastern Indonesia market so that the expansion of natural gas utilization for all regions of the country can be realized soon.

"If the gas is already in several locations in Nusa Tenggara and Southeast Sulawesi, it will be easy for PGN to enter the retail sectors around the area," said Achmad.

PGN is committed to expanding and increasing the use of natural gas nationally and in an integrated manner to serve natural gas needs from upstream to downstream as well as being a real solution to the use of natural gas as an environmentally friendly transitional energy towards net zero emissions.
