JAKARTA - Frauds on behalf of Bank Central Asia (BCA) have recently emerged on various social media platforms, for example through WhatsApp or fake accounts. The mode used is related to the offer of an upgrade program to become a BCA Solitaire and Prioritas customer.

Director of BCA Haryanto T. Budiman explained that cybercrime cases themselves are increasingly prevalent in line with the current rapid development of digital technology. He said the crime was undeniable.

"Knowing that the COVID-19 pandemic is accelerating the adoption of digitalization, this digital challenge is a new risk that arises," he said at a media gathering at the Hotel Indonesia Kempinski, Jakarta, Monday, June 13.

Haryanto said that one type of cybercrime that often occurs is online fraud, such as by the appearance of advertisements on social media, asking for personal data such as credit card numbers, PINs and OTP codes.

To anticipate this, said Haryanto, BCA also contacted Google to take down the party on behalf of one of the largest private banks.

"This should be watched out by customers. Because banks never ask for your personal data. Never give your personal data to anyone. We interact directly with Google and raise this issue and take action or withdraw the post," he said.

In fact, continued Haryanto, there is also an offer to become a Priority customer. In fact, he said, BCA had never advertised the upgrade program to become a BCA Solitaire and Prioritas customer through such social media.

"We also recently heard posts on Instagram, I did a check, strange accounts always appeared, offering a balance of Rp. 10 million, which could be priority customers," said Haryanto.

"We have never given an upgrade program like that, it is an irresponsible party," he continued.

Therefore, Haryanto asks that customers are also expected to be careful not to provide personal data to anyone.

"We want to educate customers, now there are 24 million customers to be more careful and wise in obtaining information and be careful about providing personal data to criminals. That's a challenge in the future, hopefully our customers are more aware of the risks that arise with posting it," he said.
