JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto emphasized that the Indonesian government is committed to encouraging G20 members to work together to balance interests across diverse memberships.

Airlangga said that this spirit was brought by Indonesia in the G20 forum and President Joko Widodo at the Global Crisis Response Group (GCRG) as representatives of the G20 Presidency.

"Indonesia as the G20 Presidency is committed to balancing the interests of all members to ensure that no (country) is left behind," said Airlangga in his statement, Friday, June 10.

The establishment of the GCRG itself is to advocate and facilitate global consensus on actions to avoid, mitigate, and respond to the impact of the crisis.

There are a number of crises currently threatening countries in the world, especially those who are still vulnerable. Starting from the food, energy, and financial crisis, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Ukraine-Russia war.

Even though it is trusted to focus on financial solutions, Indonesia remains open to participating in providing input, suggestions, and recommendations related to the food and energy crisis.

Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Susiwijono Moegiarso as the Sherpa of GCRG said that the United Nations expects Indonesia to play an important role as the G20 Presidency.

According to him, the GCRG and the G20 are expected to collaborate to ensure sustainable global food and nutrition security.

The G20 also needs to align the energy transition agenda that supports efforts to achieve the SDGs, ensure access to sustainable, reliable and affordable energy and encourage easy access to finance and technology for developing countries.

"The synergy between the G20 and the GCRG also needs to be pursued in global financial and monetary policies, especially to help countries facing debt," said Susiwijono.

He added, according to the direction of Coordinating Minister Airlangga, Indonesia as the G20 Presidency in 2022 emphasizes collaboration with developed and developing countries.

This collaboration is to answer various crises, including food, energy, and finance, as well as to synchronize and synergize concrete deliverables with initiatives built by the GCRG countries.

The Indonesian government will amplify this active role and trust at the global level in the GCRG forum and link it to discussions at the G20 forum.

Sesmenko Susiwijono admitted that the Indonesian GCRG Sherpa would build intensive communication with the GCRG and G20 member countries because discussions must focus on concrete, appropriate, and fast steps to overcome the crisis.

"Not only a crisis due to the Ukraine-Russia war, but also a crisis due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, Sherpa GCRG Indonesia will also prioritize the humanitarian aspect of the Ukraine-Russia war which is still ongoing today," he added.
