JAKARTA - Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo said the need for livestock for sacrifice on Eid al-Adha 1443 H is 1.72 million heads. Despite the outbreak of Mouth and Nail Disease (FMD), the figure is up about 6 percent from last year.

The Ministry of Agriculture has also calculated the estimated slaughter of sacrificial animals in 2022 as many as 1,722,982 heads. This figure is up about 5 to 6 percent from 2021 which is 1,640,935.

"Livestock in 2022 will be 1.72 million heads, an increase of 5-6 percent from 2021 as many as 1.64 million heads," he said in a Working Meeting with Commission IV DPR, Monday, May 23.

Syahrul said that although the need for livestock for sacrifice increased in the midst of the PMK outbreak, it was certain that the supply was sufficient. In addition, he also ensured that the supply of sacrificial animals did not come from the red zone areas that were infected with FMD.

Furthermore, Syahrul also said that data collection and socialization of PMK to traders of sacrificial animals were continuing. With this, it is hoped that the implementation of the sacrifice on Eid this year will run smoothly.

"Currently, data collection and dissemination of PMK are being carried out to all qurbani traders by all district/city offices who are provided with technical instructions for slaughtering qurbani to be guided," he explained.

Syahrul is also optimistic that two weeks before Eid al-Adha which falls on July 9, 2022, the need for livestock will be sufficient to enter the slaughter area.

"We are very sure 14 days before Eid al-Adha all cattle are in the required position and enter (to the slaughter area)," he said.
