JAKARTA - Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs Teten Masduki said that the condition for achieving Indonesia's projection as a developed country with the fourth largest income in 2045 is to produce many entrepreneurs.

"The prerequisite is that we must increase the number of entrepreneurs, not too many activists. But the minimum number of entrepreneurs is 4 percent," he said at a press conference at the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs Building, Jakarta, Thursday, May 12.

Therefore, said Teten, his party is targeting the addition of new entrepreneurs within the next 2 years or in 2024. This is very necessary to achieve Indonesia's target as a developed country.

"Now, on average, between 12 and 14 percent of developed countries become entrepreneurs," he said.

The Chief Executive of the Presidential Decree on Entrepreneurship also stated that currently the government's focus is to create an additional 1 million new entrepreneurs spread throughout Indonesia.

Furthermore, Teten said Presidential Regulation No. 2 of 2022 will be one of the foundations to achieve this target.

"We want to add 1 million entrepreneurs, later the regional (government) will be 600,000 and under the ministry's assistance, 400,000 entrepreneurs," he said.

Thus, continued Teten, the number of new entrepreneurs will be more than the number of activists. "This is part of the government's efforts to prepare Indonesia to become a developed country," he said.

On the same occasion, the Expert Staff of the Minister of Finance and MSME Development of the Ministry of SOEs, Loto Srinaita Ginting, expressed his support. He said, the Ministry under the leadership of Erick Thohir is ready to support the creation of additional established entrepreneurs.

"We really support this program and the Ministry of SOEs together with SOEs have prepared themselves to support and create additional established entrepreneurs," he said.
