Commission VII DPR Will Evaluate Rules Of Ban On Sea Sand Exports

JAKARTA - Commission VII of the House of Representatives during a working visit (kunker) in Batam listened to input from related parties regarding the regulation on the export ban on sea sand.

Deputy Chairman of Commission VII DPR RI Eddy Soeparno said that after hearing some of the inputs.

He promised to follow up again by holding a meeting with the central government to solve the problem.

According to Eddy, some of the main points in this recess work were the importance of coordinating marine sand mining permits in Indonesia.

For your information, in a hearing (RDP) in January 2022, Commission VII of the DPR RI revealed that there are two ministries that are fighting over the governance of the sand mining business.

The two ministries are the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).

"Both involving the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the KKP should be harmonized again if existing regulations overlap," he said in a written statement, Thursday, May 12.

In addition, Eddy said, the Commission VII recess work team also received input from second-level regional heads in the Riau Islands Province regarding their involvement as local governments in the mining permit.

"Because in fact they are the ones who know the most about regional conditions and their impact on the environment," continued Eddy.

During the meeting, Commission VII also did not deny that sea sand holds great economic potential and has the opportunity to increase Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP).

Therefore, said Eddy, it is necessary to evaluate the regulation on the export ban on sea sand which is currently in effect.

He said the evaluation would be carried out in a meeting with the central government and related parties after conducting this recess work.

"Therefore, of course, an in-depth study must be carried out so that this problem does not bring income to the state but has a negative impact on the environment," explained Eddy.
