Exhibiting The Awakening Of Indonesian Tourism During A Speech At The United Nations, Sandiaga Uno: Becomes The World's Reference In Handling The Pandemic

JAKARTA - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno took advantage of this valuable opportunity when giving a speech at the United Nations High-level Thematic Debate on Tourism held by the United Nations General Assembly Hall, in New York, United States, Wednesday 4 May. On that occasion, Sandiaga showcased the revival of tourism after being hit by the global COVID-19 pandemic.

He said that Indonesia is currently the world's reference in handling the COVID-19 pandemic because it has succeeded in revitalizing the tourism sector.

"Indonesia is very much appreciated in handling the COVID-19 pandemic and the revival of our tourism based on quality, community-based, and sustainable tourism is the support for our economic revival, supporting the creation of business opportunities, and also being able to open up the widest possible employment opportunities," he said. Sandiaga in his statement, Thursday 5 May.

He said when talking about sustainable tourism, there must be concrete action. Sandiaga explained that one of the concrete actions was Indonesia's offer to turn plastic waste into a nature-based solution.

"Well, that's what we present, and we immediately show that this purun-based straw will be our real solution to overcome environmental issues," Sandiaga added.

He revealed that what must be realized immediately with his statement at the UN General Assembly is that in line with the G20 and Indonesia's role as the host of the world tourism day, his party will continue to encourage economic revival, create business opportunities, and open up job opportunities.

"Together with President Joko Widodo, of course we are compiling a new tourism economic order that is more open and fair. The permit we underline and Indonesia takes a strategic position, a position as a country that becomes a reference for all regions in the world in handling the COVID-19 pandemic and the revival of tourism. ," said Sandiaga.
