Commission VII DPR Asks Related Parties To Manage Surplus Energy At PLTMG Holtekamp 50MW Jayapura Wisely

JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission VII DPR RI Sugeng Suparwoto during his working visit at the Holtekamp 50 MW Gas Engine Power Plant (PLTMG) found the fact that in the Jayapura system there is a power surplus of up to 54 MW. For this reason, Sugeng advised that the excess power should be managed wisely for the benefit of the community.

PLTMG is a power plant owned by PT PLN (Persero) which is one of the base loads for electricity in Jayapura. With the operation of the PLTMG, it is hoped that the community can enjoy evenly distributed electrical energy to remote areas and support industrial growth in the region.

"We get an idea, in terms of sufficient electricity availability. In fact, there are more reserves of around 54 MW or 51 percent, that is already high. It's just that the reserves must be spread evenly and not in one place," said Sugeng in his written statement, Monday 25 April.

He explained that in the future Papua will become a new growth center for Indonesia. The reason is that there are a lot of natural resource reserves in Papua. This needs to be supported by the ability of great human resources and of course it must be supported with adequate electrical energy.

"There is a huge energy potential from the (River) Mamberamo, which is 20 gigabytes. Indeed, today it has not been built, because demand in Papua is still very low. Later, along with the progress of the Papuan people, we will build it soon, we will also build industrial- industry in Papua," said Sugeng.

Meanwhile, PLN Regional Business Director for Sulawesi, Maluku, Papua and Nusa Tenggara Adi Priyanto acknowledged that there was an excess of around 54 MW of power reserves. According to him, the reserve margin is certainly intended for development in Jayapura.

"So we provide this reserve margin in addition to reliability, also for development. We hope that with this large reserve margin, the people in Jayapura and surrounding areas can be more advanced, many investors enter without worrying about electricity shortages. Our hope is the economy in Papua will be more advanced," concluded Adi.

Apart from Adi Priyanto, during the visit, Commission VII DPR RI was also accompanied by the Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Rida Mulyana and the Director General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Dadan Kusdiana.
