JAKARTA - PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Persero) or Pelni ensures that all passenger and pioneer ships that are operated are ready to serve Lebaran 2022 homecoming transportation. There are 70 ships prepared, both passengers and pioneers.

Pelni's Director of Passenger Transport Business Yahya Kuncoro said all ships would operate in welcoming the 2022 Leberan homecoming period. He also required the readiness of all fleets.

"The available seats, all of our ships are fully operational. So our ships have 26 passenger ships and 44 pioneer ships. Thank God they are all ready to operate," he said in a virtual discussion, Monday, April 18.

Yahya said that the passenger ships owned by Pelni had different capacities, there were 500, 1,000 and 2,000 passengers. While pioneer ships are able to accommodate 250 to 500 passengers.

Furthermore, Yahya said that the feasibility of the fleet to support passenger safety during the Lebaran 2022 homecoming transportation period was the main priority. Likewise, the readiness of prospective passengers on the Pelni ship to travel home this year.

"From the fleet side, before this ship serves users, we check that everything is docked. We hope that when serving passengers they are in a fit condition," he explained.

Yahya predicts that there will be an increase in passengers during the homecoming period this year. For this reason, Pelni has carried out strategic planning for this year's homecoming, starting from predicting the route that will be crowded with passengers.

Meanwhile, Pelni determined that the homecoming flow would occur on April 17 or D-15 to May 18 or D+15. During this period, there will be back and forth flows.

"We have coordinated with the Ministry of Transportation to temporarily move ships that are indeed on sections that are not too congested. We hope that the occupancy can be carried out, we can handle the spike and hopefully it will run smoothly," he said.
