JAKARTA - Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani revealed that this year's Ramadan momentum is the most crucial moment in keeping the spread of COVID-19 under control.

The reason is, the government has made a policy to allow people to return to their hometowns on the upcoming Eid. This decision, of course, has an impact on increased mobility and has the potential to raise the number of pandemics in various regions.

"On the health side, this pandemic could transition to becoming endemic so that community activities, including later celebrating Eid al-Fitr, do not pose a risk of an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases," she told the media crew through virtual channels on Wednesday, April 13.

The Minister of Finance also hopes that the situation will remain under control while hoping that the case in Shanghai, China, which is being hit by the COVID-19 tsunami after the Chinese New Year celebrations, will not occur in the country.

"Because we are all paying attention to how China, which has been known to be very effective in dealing with COVID-19, has experienced an increase in cases, especially in the Shanghai area and now in several other cities. So we must not let go of our vigilance," she said.

However, the state treasurer ensures that the state budget is always ready to be a shock absorber in resisting pressures due to the pandemic.

To note, this year the government has provided a National Economic Recovery (PEN) budget of IDR 455.62 trillion as a response in tackling COVID-19.

This amount is divided into three main clusters, namely health care of IDR 122.54 trillion, the community protection cluster of Rp. 154.76 trillion, and strengthening of the economic recovery of IDR 178.32 trillion.

Meanwhile, the realization of PEN funds until March 25, 2022, was recorded at IDR 22.6 trillion, equivalent to 5 percent of the provided ceiling.

"Therefore, we will continue to use the state budget to maintain the health factor and control the pandemic to become endemic," said Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani.
