JAKARTA - There are many ways that mining companies do in an effort to protect the environment around them. As has been done by PT Bumi Resources Tbk (BUMI) through PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC).

KPC built an integrated waste management site (TPST) with the Eco Waste Concept. This is the result of the collaboration between KPC and the East Kutai Regency Government, which is named TPST Prima Sangatta Eco Waste.

This TPST uses a machine made by the nation's children, the Thermal Hydro Drive. The engine boiler uses a boiler temperature of 600°C – 1200°C with 42 KVa Electrical Power, Water Requirements 3 – 5 M3/day and a Cyclone smoke filter system, Wet Scrubber and operates with a capacity of 50 tons per day. The final result is ash/bottom ash which is a substitute for sand for making bricks and paving blocks.

The TPST was built on an area of 1800 square meters with a KPC Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) budget of Rp. 16.9 billion, which includes Rp. 13.5 billion for machines, Rp. 1.9 billion of buildings, and one year of assistance and other supports of Rp. 1.5 billion. behind the Sangatta Main Market (PIS), Teluk Lingga, Sangatta City.

In his statement, Monday, February 7, President Director of Bumi Resources, Adika Nuraga Bakrie, stated that this step is a real contribution to the City of Sangatta. The collaboration between KPC and the East Kutai Regency Government continues.

"This provides additional evidence that the BUMI group is committed to implementing the best rules in the environmental field, especially helping the government and the people of East Kutai in dealing with waste," said Adika.

Meanwhile, the Regent of East Kutai, Drs H Ardiansyah Sulaiman, believes that the existence of the TPST can increase the achievement of the Adipura certificate that has been previously achieved. "I am very grateful for his contribution. This is extraordinary. For KPC, continue to work for a better East Kutai. Hopefully the Adipura certificate that we have received can increase its status to a higher level," said Regent Ardiansyah.
