Pertagas Niaga Tests LNG For Ship Fuel

JAKARTA - PT Pertagas Niaga, as part of the Subholding Gas of PT Pertamina (Persero), carried out a trial of filling liquefied natural gas (LNG) for consumers of PT Total Energi Naratama (TEN) as a provider of fuel conversion for dual fuel engine (DDF) diesel vessels in Samarinda , East Kalimantan.

Awareness of the use of natural gas as an effort to meet IMO 2020 compliance or the policy of reducing air pollution in the shipping world, continues to increase for industries in East Kalimantan.

LNG fuel, which is clean and environmentally friendly energy, is used by TEN to test the engine of the DDF ship.

"This is a good sign, because more and more industrial sectors, especially the maritime industry, are aware of the importance of using LNG as a cleaner energy as well as profitable from an economic perspective," said President Director of Pertagas Niaga Aminuddin in a statement in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Thursday, February 3rd.

In the early stages, TEN uses LNG with a volume of 20 MMBTU and if the trial process which takes place on Saturday, January 29 is successful, then TEN will increase the volume to meet the need for fuel to propel the ship's engine.

Pertagas Niaga's LNG supply is obtained from Pertamina Gas' Filling Station Plant 26 in Bontang, East Kalimantan. In addition to supplying ship fuel, the LNG Subholding Gas Group in East Kalimantan has been used for PT PLN (Persero) power plants, hospitals in Samarinda, and industry. heavy equipment in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan.
