JAKARTA Argentina U-17 qualified for the semifinals of the 2023 U-17 World Cup after winning 3-0 over their Brazil U-17 rivals at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) on Friday, November 24, 2023 evening WIB.

La Albiceleste's three winning goals were scored by their wonderkid, Claudio Echiverri. The player, nicknamed the Small Devils, scored one goal each in the first half and two goals in the second half.

The River Plate player wearing the captain's armband opened the scoring for his team in the 28th minute.

His shot continued Dylan Gorosito's pass hit Brazilian U-17 in the leg so the ball turned the way to outwit goalkeeper Phillipe Gabriel.

He then doubled Team Tango's goal 13 minutes after the second half started. This time he didn't waste a pass from Valentino Acuna.

Echeverri then scored his third goal in the 71st minute. He chased Agustin Roberto's sweet pass and then tricked the opposing goalkeeper and netted the ball into an empty net.

This victory also erased Argentina U-17's bad memory, which previously always lost against Brazil U-17 in the knockout stages of this biennial group competition.

Previously, in the two meetings in the knockout stages which began in 1985, Brazil U-17 was always recorded as the winner.

Their first meeting took place in the semifinals of the 1995 edition in Ecuador. At that time the Samba Team won 3-0 before losing in the final against Ghana U-17.

The two teams then faced each other again in the quarter-finals in Egypt two years later. Brazil U-17 won 2-0 again and continued their journey until they raised the title.

In the semifinals, Argentina U-17 will meet Germany U-17 who successfully eliminated Spain U-17. Christian Wuck's side won through Paris Brunner's single goal from the spot in the second half.
