JAKARTA - The Indonesian women's singles badminton player, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung has won at the 2023 Japan Masters. The title also made a new history for the Indonesian badminton world.

In the final which took place at the Kumamoto Prefectural Gymnasium, Sunday 19 November afternoon WIB. Gregoria faces a tough opponent. He had to duel with Chen Yufei who is the 2020 Olympic champion.

Despite facing tough challenges, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung managed to win in two straight games. He showed full dominance to overthrow Yufei with a landslide score, 21-12, 21-12.

Victory over Yufei in the final round made Gregoria the champion at the Japan Masters 2023 in the women's singles. Apart from winning, Gregoria also recorded a new history.

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung became the first Indonesian women's singles to win the BWF Tour level Super 500 title. Since BWF used the BWF Tour scheme since 2018, no Indonesian women's singles have been able to win BWF Tour level 500 and above.

The best achievements of Indonesian women's singles were the winners of the Super 300 level tournament won by Fitriani (Thailand Open 2019), Putri Kusuma Wardani (Spain Masters 2021), and Gregoria at the Spain Masters 2023.

Gregoria's victory at the 2023 Japan Masters has made Indonesian women's singles have won at the Super 500 level since the BWF Tour era in 2018. Gregoria became the first Indonesian women's singles badminton player to successfully make this history.

Gregoria herself is currently the highest ranking Indonesian women's singles badminton player. Gregoria is now in seventh position in the world.
