JAKARTA – The latest upload on Lionel Messi's Instagram has received attention. It's not about controversy, but rather the charming appearance of the Argentinian footballer.

Messi is seen posing in a photo session in his upload. The thing that stole attention was none other than the jersey he was wearing.

The 36 year old player seemed to take football fans back to the era of the 1980s to the mid-1990s.

Yes, Messi is holding a photo session to introduce the Argentinian national team's retro jersey collection from the well-known apparel company, Adidas.

The La Albiceleste jersey is designed like the 1990s. The inspiration for this retro collection comes from the days when Diego Maradona was still playing.

To be precise, this retro Argentina uniform is an overhaul of the dark blue away jersey that Maradona wore at the 1994 World Cup.

The newly launched modern version retains its original splendor. Call it a black diamond panel on one side of the front to a repeating pattern of the Argentine Football Association (AFA) logo embedded in the uniform.

However, the problem is that the inspiration for Argentina's retro jersey reminds one of the Albiceleste's dark days at the 1994 World Cup.

The tournament was a failure for the Albiceleste and Maradona played twice in the group stage in the United States before being sent home after failing a drugs test.
