Defeating Luxembourg, Slovakia Has a Chance to Qualify for Euro 2024

JAKARTA - Slovakia has the opportunity to compete again in the European Cup. They are almost certain to qualify for the Euro 2024 finals after winning 1-0 over hosts Luxembourg in the Group F qualifying match at the Stade de Luxembourg, Tuesday, October 17 early morning of Western Indonesian Time (WIB).

Slovakia is starting to establish itself as a mediocre team that regularly competes in major tournaments. They have only competed in the World Cup once since splitting from Czechoslovakia. Likewise, The Sokoli or also nicknamed The Falcons have never competed in the European Cup.

However, in the last two Euro events, Slovakia always took part. Even at Euro 2016, Slovakia, led by Martin Skrtel, Marek Hamsik and Milan Skriniar, who were the new generation at that time, managed to penetrate the last 16 before being eliminated by Germany with a landslide score of 3-0.

However, Luxembourg's hopes were finally dashed. Slovakia took advantage and beat the hosts through David Duris' goal in the 77th minute.

The goal started with David Hancko's assist which was then completed by Duris. The 1-0 score for Slovakia lasted until the end of the match.

This victory makes Slovakia even stronger in second place with 16 points in Group F standings.

With two matches remaining, they need one more win to accompany Portugal to the Euro 2024 finals.

Meanwhile, Luxembourg is in third place with 11 points. Even though it is difficult, Luxembourg's opportunities are not closed. They must win in the last two matches to maintain their chances.
