JAKARTA - The fate of the Indonesian national team in the 2023 AFF U-23 Cup is on the brink. The defeat to Malaysia in the inaugural match made the Garuda Muda squad have to wait for the results of the match in other groups.

Indonesia's qualifying for the semifinals of the AFF U23 Cup depends on the results of the Group B and C matches, Tuesday, August 26 evening. Currently, Indonesia occupies the second position of Group B by winning three points from two matches with zero goal difference and hopes to come out as the best second place, according to AFF's records. In tonight's match, there are two parties that may influence Indonesia's certainty of qualifying for the semifinals. The first match is the Group B match between Malaysia and Timor Leste which was held at the PTT Stadium, Rayong, Tuesday at 20.00 WIB. In this match Malaysia must make a victory or at least secure a draw so that Indonesia can seal the second place in Group B. Andai surprisingly defeated Malaysia from Timor Leste with a convincing score, Indonesia is likely to drop to third place, as reported by Antara.

Next is the Group C match which brings together Vietnam against the Philippines at the Rayong Provincial Stadium, Rayong, Tuesday at 20.00 WIB.

In this match, it is hoped that Vietnam can carve a victory or secure a draw over the Philippines in order to smooth Indonesia's steps to penetrate the semifinals. If in the end the Philippines can secure a convincing victory over Vietnam, then the steps taken by the Indonesian national team can certainly be stopped at this event.

In Group A, Cambodia and Myanmar will certainly not be able to advance to the next round because they are only able to secure one point from two matches because the match against Brunei will not be counted for the second best place.
