Manchester United And Mason Greenwood Agree To Separate, Best Decision For All?

JAKARTA - Manchester United officially released Mason Greenwood. This decision was taken based on a mutual agreement.

This step must be taken by Manchester United for the good of the player in order to build a career at another club. Meanwhile, Greenwood can understand the club's policies based at Carrington Park.

Greenwood's career is threatened after facing charges of abusing a girl. On this suspicion, Greenwood has been suspended by Manchester United since January 2022.

In February, prosecutors withdrew the charges against Greenwood, including allegations of rape and sexual assault. That was after key witnesses resigned and new evidence was present.

However, that didn't make the management of the Red Devils keep the player. The club decided to release the player so that he could rebuild his career elsewhere.

"Everyone involved, including Mason, understands the difficulties he faces if he continues his career at Manchester United," said a statement on United's official website.

"Therefore, it was agreed together that what will be appropriate for him is to leave Old Trafford, and we will now work with Mason to achieve that result," the statement said.

On the other hand, Greenwood still maintains his stance that he is innocent. However, he could understand the decisions taken by the club.

"However, I fully accept that I made a mistake in my relationship, and I am responsible for the situation triggered by uploads on social media," said the 21-year-old, as quoted by Antara.

"The best decision for all of us, is that I continue my football career outside Old Trafford, where my existence will not be a nuisance to the club," he added.

United executive chairman Richard Arnold, who was criticized for discussing that Greenwood could rejoin the main squad, wrote an open letter to Red Devils fans.

In his letter, Arnold said that he realized Greenwood's difficulty in rebuilding his career, when he and his partner were raising their baby, in the midst of a sharp spotlight at United.

However, Arnold stated that the club will continue to support those suspected of being victims of the player.

"The club will continue to offer its support to the two suspected victims and Masons to help them rebuild and continue their lives positively," he wrote.
