Barcelona Kembali Kejari Joao Cancelo

JAKARTA Barcelona is said to have reopened talks with Manchester City over the possibility of Joao Cancelo's move in the transfer window this summer.

The 29-year-old has had a difficult 2022-2023 season at the Etihad Stadium, including being loaned to Bayern Munich in the second half of the season when The Citizens won the treble winner.

However, Cancelo also won the trophy after helping Die Roten win the Bundesliga title after a fierce battle with Borussia Dortmund.

Through his social media account, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, revealed that Barcelona was in active discussions with Manchester City regarding Cancelo's transfer to Spain this summer.

Barca are claimed to make the right-back a priority signing in this transfer window because they want to defend the Spanish La Liga title for the 2023-2024 season.

Cancelo is known to still have four years remaining in his current contract. This means that Pep Guardiola's team has a strong bargaining position to get a fairly high selling price if the transfer of the Portuguese player is realized.

The former Juventus player was not included in Guardiola's squad when they beat Burnley in the inaugural Premier League match. In the match which ended 3-0, Guardiola played Rico Lewis and Kyle Walker in full-back position. In fact, Cancelo has always played in three pre-season Manchester City matches.

Negotiations between Barca and City are said to be continuing in the coming days. Xavi Hernandez's team hopes to finalize a deal for the players they have been eyeing for a long time.

Barcelona does need other options on the right side of the defense, especially with their plans to sell far-right full-back Sergino Dest who is not included in the Xavi scheme who longs for players like Joao Cancelo.
