JAKARTA - Anthony Sinisuka Ginting set a new record for the world of national badminton by winning the men's singles for the Asian Badminton Championship (BAC) in Dubai, Sunday after Indonesia 16 years of fasting.

The last time Indonesia won the BAC men's singles was in 2007, which was then presented by national badminton legend Taufik Hidayat.

Quoted from Antara, Ginting did not only follow in Taufik's footsteps, who also graduated from the SGS club PLN Bandung, but the title from the BAC which took place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, was his first title from the Asian Championships.

Ginting's success was achieved after he defeated 2023 world champion Loh Kean Yew in the 2023 BAC finals. The second seed silenced Loh's game in just 26 minutes and two straight games 21-12, 21-8.

Ginting drove without a hitch in the first game. In just 15 minutes, the Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist was able to gain a 21-12 advantage over the 2021 world champion.

Ginting immediately played hard on Loh. Through a cross and a hoax that became his mainstay, Ginting was consistently able to add point by point.

After winning 7-4 over Loh, Ginting continued to widen the distance of points with his opponent to 10-5, 16-7, 18-9, until finally closing the opening game with a 21-12 victory.

In the second game, Loh lost his ability to play consistently. Through the difficult passes presented by Ginting, Loh repeatedly could not block the blow of Indonesian representatives.

Even if you had time to make a return, the blow from Loh often ended in error and died alone.

This is a distinct advantage for Ginting because he does not have to work too hard to win the first title from the BAC. Even Ginting was able to reach the interval first with 11 points, while Loh was still holding on to two points.

It didn't take long for Ginting to create a new record in Indonesian men's singles badminton. In the 26th minute, Ginting finally won his first title from the Badminton Asia Championship with a final score of 21-18 in the second game.
