JAKARTA - Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly did not use his voting rights during the 2022 FIFA Player of the Year award which took place on Monday 27 February. In fact, he has the right to be the captain of the Portugal national team.

Instead of being used by Ronaldo, this right was actually used by Portugal defender, Pepe. For some reason, Pepe was even given the right to vote even though the Portugal national team captain status was still held by Ronaldo.

There was no announcement stating Ronaldo had been removed from his position as team leader. Roberto Martinez as the new coach of the Portugal national team also firmly stated that Ronaldo would still occupy his position and be included in his plan.

"I hope we can sit with him (Cristiano Ronaldo) and create the best team," said the former Everton tactician.

"We will start the process of getting to know all players who have the potential to join the national team."

"I'm happy to have them by my side. This is a process we have to deal with naturally, with responsibility, and we will make important decisions for the team," continued the coach.
