Liga 1: Self-Self Goal Captain Persebaya Makes PSM Kian Comfortable At The Top Of The Standings

JAKARTA PSM Makassar successfully defeated Persebaya Surabaya in the 2022/2023 Indonesian Liga 1 continuation, Friday, February 24. This victory made PSM widen the distance of points from its rivals at the top of the standings.

Juku Eja got 1-0 victory against Persebaya in the 26th week at the Gelora Stadium, Joko Samudro Gresik.

The single goal that became the determinant of PSM's victory was scored by opposing players. The suicide goal was carried out by Captain Bajol Ijo, Alwi Slamet, when the normal match was only 19 minutes left.

Alwi was forced to break into his own goal while trying to anticipate a cross from Everton sent from the left side of the field. His effort to block the opportunity turned into the mouth of the goal which goalkeeper Andika Ramadhani couldn't stop.

This is PSM's 16th victory this season from 26 matches. This result makes PSM also now four points ahead of Persib Bandung who trailed in second place.

However, PSM Makassar has played one game more than Persib and Persija which trailed in third place with a collection of 50 points.

PSM will play the match next week against Dewa United on Wednesday, March 1.

Persebaya will also have a relatively easy opponent next week. The reason is, they met RANS Nusantara, who is currently still the caretaker of the standings with a collection of only 17 points.
