JAKARTA President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) gave directions to the General Chair of the All-Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir and his staff during a meeting at the State Palace, Monday, February 20. Jokowi hopes that PSSI will make a blueprint for Indonesian football.

"We received directions on how Indonesian football must have a short, medium and long-term blueprint," Erick said in a press conference monitored via the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube show.

In the long term, the blueprint has the aim of realizing Indonesia's dream of hosting the 2040 World Cup. This hope was previously discussed by Jokowi with FIFA President Gianni Infantino at the G20 event, some time ago.

"The context is there. If the blueprint has no end, it's just a blueprint. If there is a big goal, whoever the government is, whoever the minister is, whoever the chairman of the PSSI, we have the same goal of flying the red and white flag at the highest level," said Erick.

PSSI is ready to immediately carry out the directives from President Jokowi. The Blueprint is planned to start in the near future even though there is no exact target when.

"This is our commitment that this blueprint must happen immediately. We prove it with a new management, we can work to maximize Indonesian football," said Erick, who once served as President of Inter Milan.

The man who also serves as Minister of SOEs then explained that the detailed framework will cover several aspects, including infrastructure, acceleration of the national team, and comprehensive coaching.

He also emphasized that there must be cooperation between PSSI and FIFA and the Government. The continuity of the cooperation is expected to bring the transformation of national football in the right direction.
