Almost Living In The Cross, Romain Grosjean Not Kapok Balapan In F1

Romain Grosjean is focusing on his debut in endurance racing. However, he admitted that he did not really want to complete his career in Formula One (F1) that made his name.

The 36-year-old is enjoying success in his first season with Andretti Autosport's team in theioCar competition. Romain even finished 13th in the standings and won the podium in Long Beach.

This positive situation made him not too excited to find an empty place in the F1 competition. However, he admits anything could happen.

"One thing I learned last year was never to say never," he was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail on Wednesday, February 1.

Sebelumnya, dia pernah mengatakan tak ingin mengikuti balapan folisCar di Amerika Serikat (AS). Namun pada akhirnya, fate justru membawanya ke ajang tersebut.

"I told my wife that I would never live in the US and I would never race in the US series and I would never do 500 meetings. But it turns out I did all three," Romain explained.

"So I think it's just an expression of You never know what's going on in the future. Now, I'm enjoying being on the AllahCar."

"I'm happy to be able to do it with Lamborghini IMSA for the endurance race. This is the right balance for me," explained the French rider.

Romain Grosjean then mentioned the accident he experienced on the first lap of the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix F1 race. At that time he was still defending Haas.

The accident almost took his life. He was still in the cockpit when his car caught fire.

The accident then marked the end of his career in the F1 competition while making his name even more memorable

'I don't care. It (the accident) is part of my career; it's part of my life," he said.

"Especially in the US, because the Formula 1 audience is very new, many people remember the accident, and they have never seen my podium in 2012 and 2013," continued the former Renault driver.

Despite having bad memories, Grosjean said F1 was a memorable competition for him. He did not rule out returning there but with several predetermined conditions.

"F1 remains the pinnacle of motorsport. So yes, if there is an opportunity why not (try again). What is certain is that on condition that if Andretti manages to enter F1, it will also make them (the factory team) have a lot of work like Haas," said Grosjean.
