JAKARTA - Indonesian men's singles Anthony Sinisuka Ginting defeated Danish representative Anders Antonsen, in the second round of the Malaysia Open 2023. This victory led Ginting to the quarter-finals.

Playing at the Axiata Arena, Thursday, January 12 at noon WIB, Anthony had to go through a three-game match. He won 21-14, 17-21, and 21-17 to maintain hopes for the Indonesian men's singles number.

The world number four badminton player is the only representative of the Red and White women's singles remaining at the Super 1000 BWF level championship.

Anthony actually went into the second round with Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo and Jonatan Christie. However, Chico was made to surrender by Indian representative Prannoy HS, while Jonathan lost to the Japanese representative, Kenta Nishimoto.

In the quarter-finals, Anthony Ginting, who is the sixth seed, will face another Japanese representative Kanta Tsuneyama.

This match will be a tough test for Anthony because on paper both of them recorded a winning-loss record of 2-2. In addition, Kanta also qualified for the quarter-finals after eliminating fourth seed Chinese Taipei Chou Tien Chen.

Meanwhile, in the women's singles sector, Indonesia has no hope whatsoever. The only Indonesian representative Gregoria Mariska Tunjung has lost.

Gregoria, who was runner-up at the 2022 Australian Open, was forced to go home by the women's singles Chinese Taipei Wen Chistin in a three-game duel, 18-21, 21-16, and 18-21.

Apart from Ginting, tickets to the quarter-finals were also successfully secured by the men's doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto and mixed doubles Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja.
