JAKARTA - Indonesian tennis legend Yayuk Basuki said women's tennis was excited again with several tournaments that had recently been held. One of them is Rajawali Women's Tennis Open 2022.

Yayuk believes that the tournament, which is currently taking place at the Sultan Hotel Tennis Field, Jakarta, could be the beginning of the revival of women's tennis.

"I appreciate this tournament. Frankly, with this tournament I have another hope," Yayuk said as quoted by Antara, Thursday, December 1.

"Then there was the COVID-19 pandemic. But the whole world has started to hold tournaments. In Indonesia there is also, but for men. Whereas previously I had lost hope for women because there were no matches," he continued.

Without a tournament, Yayuk continued, Indonesian women's tennis players find it difficult to be able to compete at the world level. "How can we compete at the world level or how can athletes get points for both if local matches don't have one," said Yayuk.

The former world number 19 women's tennis player hopes that Rajawali Women's Tennis Open 2022 will become the gateway for the next tournaments. At least, according to her, the hope of female players can return.

"Hopefully this will be an opening event and motivate again for our female players. From here, hopefully there will be a tournament with a higher level," Yayuk said.

In one year, Yayuk revealed that ideally there are 10 local tournaments for women's tennis players. "Turnament is open. This means that it is not an age group. If it can be combined with international tournaments, it will be much better because to get world rankings, players must enter international competitions," said Yayuk.

"The players must have points that end up producing ratings. Internationally, tennis players are required to play 20 to 30 tournaments. Every week the tournament exists," he concluded.
