JAKARTA Chelsea's new owner Todd Boehly was criticized after proposing an all-star match in the English Premier League. The idea is considered nonsense.

Boehly conveyed the discourse when speaking to SALT Conference recently. He said sports in England, especially football, needed to learn from the United States.

He proposed that all-star matches between teams in the north and south of England need to be held because they have the potential to make money. These profits can later be used to help clubs.

"I hope the English Premier League can take lessons from American sports and start really starting to find out. Why not hold a tournament with four teams carried away? Why isn't there an all-star?" he said, quoted by The Sun, Thursday.

The idea immediately received criticism from Craig Burley, who is a former Chelsea player. According to Burley, what Boehly said will not attract the attention of supporters.

"Tead droppings. Really just horse droppings. Let me show a few things here. He talks about relegation and they do this in another league where they have playoffs in relegation from different levels," Burley said.

"What is the sport in America that has a relegation system? Unless I miss something, the answer is no," Burley continued.

The all-star match is not something foreign in the United States. Moreover, Boehly himself is a citizen of the power of attorney so she doesn't surprise this kind of idea.

The United States public is used to watching all-star matches in competitions such as basketball and baseball. The All-star is a place that displays the actions of the star players of the top teams.

The all-star match usually results in a lot of revenue. American baseball league games on weekends or Mondays and Tuesdays, for example, could make $200 million.

"The second thing is, he talks about $200 million or whatever. Doesn't he see a graph growing and growing and the amount of money the Premier League is making around the world?" said Burley.

"I mean it makes a lot of money. It's gone up every year because broadcasters pay more and more and more. They don't need money. They certainly don't need additional games," he added.

Boehly's idea will most likely make millions of dollars if realized. The reason is, it will involve teams like Manchester United, Manchester City, and Liverpool (for the north), as well as Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Arsenal (for the south).
