Hungary Qualified For The Euro 2020 Final After Beating Iceland 2-1

JAKARTA - Hungary secured a ticket to the 2020 European Cup finals thanks to a 2-1 victory over Iceland in the A playoff match played at the Puskas Arena, Budapest, Thursday local time or Friday morning WIB.

Launching Antara, Iceland took the lead through Gylfi Sigurdsson (11 '), but in the second half Hungary was able to equalize and turn things around with goals from Loic Nego (88') and Dominik Szoboszlai (90 + 2 ').

Armed with these good results, Hungary will participate in the European Cup for the fourth time. Previously, they had participated in the 1964, 1972 and 2016 European Cups.

The visitors were able to break the deadlock with Sigurdsson's free kick which goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi failed to anticipate in the early stages of the first half.

After that Iceland several times threatened Hungary's goal. Alfred Finnbogason snatched a cross which Gulacsi could hold this time, then Johan Gudmundsson's low shot was also caught by the keeper.

Hungary's performance got even better after halftime. Goalkeeper Hannes Halldorsson mistakenly anticipated a shot which was deflected from Adam Szalai's pass. But that opportunity still failed to convert into goals.

A new equalizing goal was created just before normal time ran out. Starting with chaos at the mouth of the Iceland goal, the ball then fell to Nego's feet. The substitute, who had just entered the field four minutes earlier, reacted quickly to snatch the ball into Halldorsson's goal.

Szoboszlai then scored the winner for Hungary. Szoboszlai's hard kick from outside the penalty box kicks the ball into the corner of the Iceland goal.
