Up In Arms! Bayern Munich Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer Irritates The Taxi Driver Because He Is Considered Too Stingy

JAKARTA – Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has been busy in the news, not because of football. A taxi driver was upset because the Germany international goalkeeper was stingy.

As reported by Sky Germany, the driver known as Hazir S transported Neuer and a friend from Odeonsplatz, Munich's central square.

However, when he got off the taxi, the 36-year-old goalkeeper left behind his wallet and its contents. There is at least 800 euros in cash (around Rp. 12.2 million) and some credit cards.

The driver who found Neuer's belongings while cleaning his vehicle had good intentions of returning it to its owner. However, the reward received from Neuer did not please the driver at all.

The reason is, he only got a piece of the Bayern Munich jersey instead of being given the equivalent money for the long trip he took.

"The reward is like ridicule. I have four children," Hazir said as quoted by Marca.

Hazir went to return the wallet after he finished his shift. In total, the driver admitted that he had to travel 120 kilometers to meet Neuer.

The first thing the driver did was go to the flat where he'd last seen Neuer. However, there the driver did not find the 2014 World Cup winner.

Nor did he find Neuer in his private home, whose address matches his ID card. Hazir then handed the wallet to Neuer's manager.

Two weeks later, Hazir received a reward for his goodwill, but only a piece of Bayern Munich jersey with Neuer's name on the back. No dedication or other thanks.

Taxi driver disappointment is natural. According to Bild, a German tabloid, Hazir should have been rewarded around 400 euros for the 120-kilometre journey in search of Neuer.

In addition, according to local law, Hazir is entitled to 34 euros (Rp520 thousand) to return the wallet with that amount of money. Neuer's parsimony made him get a lot of criticism because of his salary at Bayern 18 million euros (about Rp275 billion) per season.
