The interest in signing Messi was conveyed by Inter's Chief Business Officer Xavier Asensi to Messi earlier this week. Club co-owner Jorge Mas later agreed in an interview with Sport when Barcelona arrived in Miami for pre-season.
"Both David Beckham and I aspire to bring the best player in the world to Miami," said Jorge Mas.
"(It's) not only because of the project we created, because we want to be the benchmark of football in the United States, but when you talk about the best player in the world, Lionel (Messi) is definitely the best player on the planet."

"Hopefully his conditions will allow him to be there, playing in an Inter Miami USA jersey. We aspire to that," said Mas.
"We don't have any guarantees, no deals, but I am a very optimistic person, and hopefully in the future Leo Messi can be a part of our project," he added.
